| Regional/National Champs Fall to Eastern Queens

Reigning
National and Africa Zone Five and women’s champions, Kenya
Ports Authority (KPA) fell 45-68 to aggressive Eastern Queens side
at the Nyayo National Gymnasium on Saturday. Eastern Queens, under
Head Coach, Abel Nson, showed clear intentions of winning from early
in the game, as they took the first quarter 24-15. KPA used their
experience to recover in the second quarter, which they won 13-10
for a score line at the break. On resumption, Queens continued their
superb plays, led by hot shooting, Hilda
Indasi who sunk six 3-pointers as they whipped KPA 22-12 in
the third, and 12-05 in the final quarter for the win. Indasi finished
with 18 points, Emma Nyakweba 11 foe Eastern Queens, while Millicent
Anyango and Irene Marambi combined for 19 points for KPA.
The other games saw Nairobi Pentecostal Church-NPC defeat Kenya
College of Accountancy University 49-42, Sprite Storms edge out
Mennonites Ladies 59-48, as Patrick Kirui led KPA men with 12 points
as they overcame Strathmore University 70-51 after leading 36-22
at halftime. KPA’s Geoffrey Omondi and Javan Odhiambo added
10 points each for KPA, while Paul Nyakinda bagged 16 points and
Emmanuel Odhiambo 10 for Strathmore.
KPA womens team recovered from their first loss of the season on
Saturday to Eastern Queens to defeat Strathmore University 87-26
after leading 37-14 at the break. Joyce Makungu shot 16 points and
Yvonne Akinyi 13 for KPA, while Faith Owich and Grace Wanjiku each
had 8 points for Strathmore.
The
other ladies game of the weekend saw YANA tyres break a 12-12 first
quarter tie with KCA University to lead 21-19 at the break, before
shooting 37 points in the last two quarters to win 58-36. Ruth Wasike
had 14, Getrude Sagala 11 and Pam Sinda 9 points for YANA, while
Helen Anyango replied with 8 points for the students.
